Spirit of Skål
The Spirit of Skål award is given yearly to a member of the club who has shown initiative and support towards club activities and worked to promote the value of 'amical' within the tourism industry. The winners of Spirit of Skål since its introduction in 1999 are: 1999/2000 - Mr. Victor J. Borg, director of various tourism entities in Gozo 2000/2001 - Dr. Victor Mercieca, a long-time hotelier, founder member of the Skål Club - Malta, past President of the MHRA and former chairman of the NTOM 2002/2003 - Mr Albert Muscat Inglott, hotelier, past chairman of various tourism related bodies, past President of the MHRA and presently ambassador to Norway 2003/2004 - Mr George Schembri, hotelier, past President of the HCIMA Malta Chapter, council member of various tourism related bodies and Hon Secretary of Skål International - Malta 2004/2005 - Mr Joseph Borg Olivier, travel agent, past President of Skål International - Malta, Hon. President of Malta’s Federated Association of Travel & Tourism Agents ( FATTA )
Mr. Joe Borg Olivier (far left) who, over the years, has been very active in Skål International. A well known personality in the local and international travel and tourism trade, Joe Borg Olivier is the immediate past president of the local chapter. He has held the position of Internal Auditor of Skål International for more than four years. Currently he holds the position of International Councillor at International level.
President Frans Camilleri (right) presented the award during a social gathering and whilst thanking him for the sterling work he has been doing for Skål he wished him more success especially in the forthcoming elections for the post of director on the main International Executive Committee being held in Durban later on in the year. Mr Borg Olivier thanked the president and the committee for the nice gesture however he expressed his feeling that the award came too early for him as he still had a long way to go. He assured those present that he will keep giving his time to better the lot of the trade in general and Skål in particular.
Joe Borg Olivier currently the Honorary the President of FATTA, ex Board Member of the MTA ( Malta Tourism Authority ) Board and Vice Chairman of the international body of travel agents namely UFTAA - United Federation of Travel Agents' Association.
The Spirit of Skål award is given to local members who are very active in Skål.
Previous holders of the award are: Victor J Borg, Victor Mercieca, Albert Muscat Inglott and George Schembri.
